This was true twenty years ago, but modern technology has changed everything. Shorter wavelengths (like 755 nm) are highly absorbed by melanin, which makes them risky for darker skin. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is a different story: its longer wavelength penetrates deeper and safely slides past the melanin on the surface of your skin to target the hair bulb below. Myth 2: "You have to laser off your entire beard."
