North York Botox FAQ
Botox North York is a cosmetic treatment from Allergan that has been used in Canada for over 17 years to address various medical conditions. In 2002, the FDA approved Botox Cosmetic, specifically for treating moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people aged 18 to 65.
Botox North York can help correct several signs of aging on the face and neck, including lipstick lines around the lips, horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical frown lines, crow’s feet around the eyes, vertical neck bands, chin wrinkles, and bunny lines on the nose. It can also reduce fullness in the jaw and jawline by relaxing the masseter muscles.
Besides these cosmetic benefits, Botox North York is also commonly used to treat migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating in the armpits and other areas).
The lines between your brows are caused by muscle movement and the passage of time. When the strong muscles between your brows contract, they pull the brows together, leading to skin folding or furrowing. As your skin loses elasticity with age, these folds or furrows turn into stubborn lines. Since frown lines are dynamic lines caused by overactive muscles, they can often be treated with small injections of Botox North York.
Static lines, however, are visible even when the muscles are at rest. These lines are typically treated with dermal or lip fillers like JUVÉDERM injectable gel. Examples of static lines include wrinkles on the cheeks and around the nose and mouth, such as marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Filler injections are also more effective for treating tear troughs under the eyes.
During your Botox treatment at our North York office, very low doses of Botox are carefully injected directly into the muscles responsible for frown lines between the brows. By blocking the release of a chemical that causes these muscles to contract, Botox North York allows them to relax. The effects are very localized, and when administered by an experienced physician, they won’t affect your ability to smile, laugh, or show other expressions. Botox is the only product of its kind approved for use in this area.
Botox doesn’t require any downtime or recovery time. The most common side effects after the injection include temporary eyelid drooping and nausea. You may also experience localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness, and/or bleeding or bruising at the injection site.
Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders like ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton Syndrome may have a higher risk of severe side effects.
