Pigmented Lesion Removal
During treatment, laser light is absorbed only by the unwanted melanin, raising the temperature to cause shattering of the pigment. Shortly after the treatment, the pigment (or melanin) have been thoroughly fragmented without damaging the surrounding tissue.
In the weeks after treatment, the shattered melanin particles are eliminated by your body’s own “clean up” system that absorbs the fragmented pigment. Little or no trace of the initial pigmentation spots remain.
IMPORTANT: All pigmented lesions should be evaluated by a Doctor to rule out potential malignancies prior to treating
At Distill Laser Clinic, we offer the GentleMax Pro which is a dual wavelength laser platform that combines two separate laser sources, a 755 nm Alexandrite laser and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser, in a single delivery system, to treat more deeply pigmented sun spots. For dark, very pigmented age spots, multiple sessions are required, however Alexandrite treatments usually require between 10-30 minutes and results can be seen within 1-5 treatments.
NOTE: Individual Results May Vary
Treatment with the GentleMax laser is actually rather comfortable. No type of anesthesia is required. Some patients may feel a very mild stinging or popping sensation with each pulse of the laser, but this is very well tolerated.
The treated area may feel warm and appear pink like a mild sunburn for the rest of the day. The individual brown spots usually become darker within a day, and they will slowly flake off over the next week or two. Do not scrub or pick at the lesions during the healing process. It is important to wear sunscreen in the treated area.
Roughly 3-5 treatments are needed 4-6 weeks apart. The response to the laser is variable, depending on the size, depth, and darkness of the lesions, so it is not possible to guarantee specific results. Some lesions may need a second treatment, and a few may even need a third treatment. Deeper lesions may not disappear completely, but will typically be lighter in color.
